July 1, 2007, Mitchell Container Services, Inc. (MCS) IBC processing plant installs 95 percent efficient electric boiler. In addition to being efficient the electric boiler has zero emissions. The new boiler replaced and old natural gas boiler installed used in 1991.

Alabama Power Company paid $10,000 on the installation of the electric boiler to encourage switching from natural gas to electric. Another bonus is no air permit form to fill out.

More savings was achieved by installing a solar water heater to preheat the boiler feed water. Gulf Coast Solar, Inc., Mark Friedline (251) 751-8723, engineered and installed the solar pre-heater. The pay back is three to five years with a thirty percent federal tax credit.
